Really Sex Burns Calories?

Scientific Explanation of Really Sex Burn Calories?

Physical activities such as running, lifting weights or swimming can be categorized as sports that burn calories. What about sexual activity? The fact that sex burns calories and is considered a sport, is not entirely true.

Although it does improve heart performance, sexual activity may not necessarily burn as many calories as people think so far.

Sex Burns Calories? This is Research Word
A number of studies over the past few years have discussed the relationship between sexual activity and calorie burning. One of them is a study from the University of Quebec in Montreal, which involved 21 heterosexual couples aged around 20 years.

Researchers note burning calories during exercise and sexual activity through special bracelets. Energy use, effort, fatigue, and pleasure are also assessed after sexual activity takes place.

All participants exercise treadmill for 30 minutes at moderate speeds to compare the number of calories burned.

The results show that men burn an average of 101 calories (4.2 cal / min) in a 24-minute session. Women burn 69 calories (3.1 cal / min). The average intensity was 6.0 METS in men and 5.6 METS in women, which meant moderate intensity.

During a moderate-intensity 30-minute treadmill session, men burn 276 calories and women 213 calories. For energy use during sexual activity is the same for men and women, when compared.

This means sex burns calories, but not as many calories as moderate exercise. Another study published in the New England Journal of Medicine even said, claims that call sex can burn calories, considered excessive. This study tested men weighing 70 kg. As a result, only 3.5 cal / min burned (210 cal / hour), during periods of stimulation and low-intensity orgasm sessions.

This means, the calorie burning that occurs is the same as that produced from moderate speed walking activities. Meanwhile the study says that sex sessions only last for 6 minutes or burn around 21 calories.

Tips for Sex to Burn More Calories

Benefits of Sex Besides Burning Calories
However, sexual activity is still good for health, including:

1. Healthy heart

Based on the study of the American Journal of Cardiology, men who engage in sexual activity 1 time per month are more likely to have heart disease, than those who do it twice a week.

2. Relieves Stress and Helps Sleep

After orgasm, the oxytocin and prolactin hormones are released by the body. Both are closely related to feeling satisfied, relaxation and sleepiness.

3. Strengthen Pelvic Muscles

Pelvic muscles support the bladder, digestive system and uterus. When contracting, these organs are pushed and the pathways of the vagina, anus and urethra narrow. Strengthening of these muscles supports the control of bodily functions such as urination, and increases the sensation of making love.

Although studies show sex burns only about 3-4 calories / minute, sex remains a human need that needs to be maintained for totality of health.
